Schindler’s List

The Schindler’s List, directed by Steven Speilberg, has gripped audiences as it addresses the brutal times of World War Two. In the black and white film the audience is dropped into a German occupied Poland during World War Two. In the opening scene, many Jew are scene registering with the German officials in order to avoid arrest or even being killed. Moments after the audience is observing Schindler, played by Liam Neisson, at a German officer dinner party. He wines and dines the German officers to the finest the venue has to offer. Schindler happens to be a man of great wealth and from the German Reich. This helps him earn favor with the German officers which leads to them granting him the right to own a business in Poland. In Poland, his company is making goods that can be traded in the ghettos in which the Jewish people are confined to. Schindler’s initial plan was designed to maximize his profit by using the Jews money to fund his business in return for pots and pans. But, Schindler ends up using the company as a crucial tool to help Jews escape from a certain death if the left in the German’s hands. Through the movie, Speilberg uses a soundtrack that helps convey the emotion of each scene to the audience. Each piece is constructed with a symphony that can either make or break the scene. Speilberg also makes an incredible decision as to who will play Schindler’s right hand man Itzhak Stern, played by Ben Kingsly. Stern ends up being the bridge that leads to Schindler’s transformation from a greedy into a man who loves all people more than his wealth. This movie shows how a man’s heart can be changed once he has realized to what extent he has dulled his senses of emotion to other people to attempt to find their own happiness.
